My, how we could use more of this kind of preaching today

Over the last couple of days, I've been listening to some sermons online at sermonaudio.com. If you don't have this site bookmarked, you should add it. There's a wealth of sermons on mp3 format from preachers and teachers all over the country. I discovered one of those rare gifts that God gives to his church in Henry Mahan....a no-nonsense, straightforward preacher of the gospel. I've been greatly blessed hearing him preach the gospel of sovereign grace in the Lord Jesus Christ. There are several pages of his sermons, but there are three I would highly recommend: "They Cry Peace When No Peace", "Salvation is of the Lord", "The Missing Note in Present-Day Preaching"....for those of you interested in a "relevant" message...the last one should fill the bill...in fact I would say it's relevance is timeless. You can find his messages on sermonaudio.com by clicking on "sermons by speaker" in the menu on the left side of the home page...his name is in the list of speakers, listed alphabetically. Enjoy.

What a blessing your blog has been!! I have been thirsty for reformed theology "meat"!! I was beginning to think I was the only person in this state that believed these things. PLEASE keep it up! Look forward to more learning!

I listened to Mahan yesterday, great! I also listened to AW Tozer, Path to Power. We need this preaching today!

seekingtruth,
Thank you for the encouragement. I'm thankful that this blog has been a resource for you...that was a big part of it's intent. The other being, to provide a place where all of us can come together and discuss doctrine...seeing that many of us get precious little of it from the pulpits of our churches in our time. Blessings to you, and keep learning and growing. Feel free to post your own comments here...that's what it exists for...we're all laymen here, so don't hesitate to join in the discussions.

watchinghistory,
Indeed we do! How sad that we have to resort to the internet to find it..but I thank God for this technology He's given us to make it possible.

Yesterday Mahan spoke of worshipping in the sermon I listen ed to: 'Peace, when there is no peace'. He said, "as much as he would like to worship, he can't". That is an incredible statement and every person who wants to understand what worship is all about should listen to that portion.

Greetings! Glad to find you all here. I started studying election about 18 months ago after witnessing a horrible scandel in my former mega church. (not baptist)

I was looking for answers to what I saw. Not that election explains everything because there are some pretty scandalous reformers out there...as I have discovered.

I was raised SB and am now back in the SB church. I forgot how much I missed those business meetings! :)

Have you all discovered Paul Washer yet? His sermons are awesome. But please do not think I am promoting a mere man. It is just you hardly hear truth anymore.

Thanks for the warm welcome, AOG! I first learned about Reformed Theology about 6 years ago. At first, I thought it was the craziest thing I had ever heard because I had always taken the word of my pastor as truth. As I read the scripture in a new light, I found it almost impossible not to believe how salvation TRUELY does take place. Since leaving college, I havent found anybody that is even somewhat open to hear what Ive learned. I hear the same response "that's not what the Bible says" when really they mean "thats not what my preacher says". I understand because that was my first reaction. I now have such a desire to know WHY I believe the things I do...the scripture that backs them up...instead of the words of my pastor or Sunday School teacher or youth leader. Enough rambling..I look forward to many future conversations with you all.

Haha... I'll do it now. I've spent the last 20 minutes searching for my TV remote, but that would probably be a better use of my time!

Just send it by email and I'll post it for you.

Which "Salvation is of the Lord" did you listen to? He has half a dozen by that title.

Mahan is terrific. I've listened to a different sermon just before bed each night this week. What a blessing!

WTB,
I'm sure any one of them by that title is a good one.
